You will be taught a sexy dance routine to original 1950's music
and use props like feather boas, satin gloves and garters!
Six week courses run continuously, but classes fill up fast and

SHIMMY & SHAKE BURLESQUE CREATOR AND
TEACHER
Maree has a backround in dance, theatre, TV & film, performing
in New Zealand and Australia. Over a twenty five period, she has
trained in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary dance, tango, singing,
speech & drama, acting and improvisation. She attained Certificate
III in Dance (Musical Theatre, Performance and Commercial Dance)
in 1998 and Certificate IV in Small Business Management in 2006.
A passion for live theatre of any genre, Maree has performed
in a variety of musical theatre shows, plays, dance revues, and
outdoor festivals over the years. Her roles include Euridyce in
Antigone, The Tango Dancer in The Boyfriend, Edith in Blithe Spirit,
Emilie in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and new works including “Broken
Diamond”, “Rites”, and “The Wedding Party”.
In “From Frying Pan To Fire, From Animal to Human Holocaust”
a musical multi media performance at La Mama in 2005, Maree devised
an eight minute solo, playing a multitude of characters. She has
also performed in a variety of pantomimes, and as a chorus member
in Fiddler On The Roof, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Music
Hall Variety Shows.
Maree has studied acting with a variety of Melbourne teachers
and institutions in Melbourne; V.C.A. N.I.D.A Touring Programme,
Meisner Method Acting at the Actors Playhouse, Melbourne Acting
Studio and The Acting Shop. She has performed in Melbourne theatres
including The Athenaeum, La Mama, Polyglot, and Sylvia Staeli
Theatre at Dancehouse.
In May 2007 Maree debuted a solo work “Madame Pearl”
at Miss Libertine in Melbourne, a tribute night to the notorious
Lola Montez.
Film and TV appearances include; Melbourne Comedy Festival 2009
Opening Gala, The Society Murders, The King Of Comedy, various
TV commercials and big budget Hollywood productions filmed in
Melbourne.
Maree’s interested in Burlesque was piqued in 2006, when
she studied Pole Dance which led to a Striptease course for fun!
A natural progression to teaching Burlesque followed, a result
of the culmination of many years of dance and her studies so far.
